The short answer

Gears of War: E-Day is available on Xbox Series S. Xbox lists Series X|S support, but its broad 4K and up-to-60-FPS marketing does not establish a native 4K image or a locked frame rate on Series S. Start with the right digital entitlement, check your available storage and decide whether you need online or local co-op.

Does E-Day run on Xbox Series S?

Yes. The official game page includes Xbox Series X|S. Series S is a supported console, not a PC streaming workaround. If you already have one, start with your library and entitlement before deciding that you need another machine.

For our existing comparison of console graphics modes, see Xbox Series X|S performance. That page labels reported measurements separately from official support. This guide focuses on the practical questions specific to getting started on Series S.

Does Series S run E-Day at 4K, 60 FPS or 120 FPS?

The Xbox page advertises 4K and up to 60 FPS across campaign and multiplayer, with a compatible-display footnote. Those are broad product claims, not a console-by-console benchmark. Output resolution, internal rendering resolution, a target frame rate and a measured frame rate describe different things.

QuestionWhat this guide can establish
Supported on Series S?Yes, officially listed
Native 4K on Series S?Not established by the general product claim
Locked 60 FPS in every scene? Not established; up to is not a stability guarantee
120 FPS?Not promised by the official product page

When comparing tests, check the console model, game build, graphics preset and whether the result is campaign or multiplayer. A video recorded at 120 FPS does not establish that the game ran at 120 FPS. Avoid choosing a display solely from a capture-video title.

Digital purchase or Game Pass?

A digital Xbox purchase is the straightforward ownership route. E-Day supports Xbox Play Anywhere; eligible digital ownership can also be used in the Xbox app on Windows with the same Microsoft account. A Steam purchase is a separate entitlement. See Steam vs Xbox app if you also use a PC.

For subscription access on console, Xbox lists Game Pass Ultimate. PC Game Pass is the PC route. Check the current plan and game listing for your account and region before subscribing; see our Game Pass guide. Subscription access and a permanent purchase are different choices.

Before installing: a short checklist

  1. Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the game or has the qualifying subscription.
  2. Find the full game in your library. A Premium Upgrade alone is not the base game.
  3. Check the console’s current download size and free storage. Leave room for updates instead of treating an old quoted size as exact.
  4. Finish console and game updates before arranging a co-op session.
  5. Open the game’s graphics settings and compare available presets in the same scene on your own display.

If the store asks you to buy again, first check the account, platform and edition on your receipt. Buying an Xbox upgrade does not create a Steam base-game license. For another storefront’s code, resolve the platform mismatch before redeeming it.

Split-screen and online co-op on Series S

Xbox describes two-player split-screen on console and up to four players in online campaign co-op. These are separate ways to form a squad. Local play needs the second player and controller at the console; online play adds account, invitation and network checks.

The official page says console online multiplayer requires a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer. Owning the base game does not remove that subscription requirement. Confirm access for the players who will join before buying an upgrade or planning a session.

For a first campaign run, keep the beginner tips and campaign walkthrough nearby. Those guides help with combat and progression; changing console graphics presets will not change your campaign objectives.

Series S buying questions

  • Should I buy a Series X just for E-Day? Support on Series S is confirmed. Compare current tests and your display before making a hardware purchase; this page does not provide a new benchmark.
  • Can a Steam key unlock the Series S version? It is not an Xbox entitlement. Check the platform on the code listing.
  • Is Premium required? Check whether you want its add-ons; the base game is a separate product from the upgrade.
  • Where are the latest supported platforms? Use the official Xbox page linked below rather than an old beta or retailer listing.
