The short answer

There is no official discount on Gears of War: E-Day yet. The Standard Edition is $69.99 and Premium $99.99 on Xbox and Steam. The cheapest way to play is Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, which includes the Standard Edition. Key marketplaces have listed it a few dollars below retail. The $299.99 Collector's Edition is sold out at the official store, and resellers are asking more than double.

Prices are the same across Microsoft's own store and Steam in the United States. Physical copies at major retailers launched at list price too. The table shows what we found when we checked on October 9, 2026.

A $5 Xbox gift card bonus for US Microsoft Store purchases ended with the October 6 launch. Pre-order offers on the Collector's Edition also closed on October 6 at 7:59 AM PT.

The cheapest way to play: Game Pass

E-Day launched day one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. If you only want to play through the campaign and try multiplayer, a month or two of a subscription costs far less than buying the game. Your progress carries over if you buy it later.

Two catches. Game Pass covers the Standard Edition only, so early access and the seasonal packs need the $30 Premium Upgrade. And that upgrade does not include the base game, so if your subscription lapses, you lose access to both. Our Game Pass page explains which tiers include it.

Key marketplaces and gray-market sites

Marketplaces such as G2A have listed E-Day below retail. On October 1, G2A's comparison page started at about $61, and about $59 with its paid membership. That is a saving of roughly $9–11 on the Standard Edition.

  • Region: check that the key works in your country before buying.
  • Platform: Xbox keys, Steam keys and Xbox PC keys are not interchangeable.
  • Fees: checkout fees and paid "buyer protection" often erase the saving.
  • Seller risk: keys are resold by third parties, and revoked keys do happen.

For most players, the official store or Game Pass is worth the small difference. If you do use a key site, compare the final total at checkout, not the headline price.

Collector's Edition deals: what is real

Searches for Collector's Edition deals spiked after launch, but there is no discount to find. The official Xbox Game Studios shop lists it at $299.99, marked out of stock with a back-in-stock alert. No restock date has been announced.

On eBay, the Collector's Edition has been listed at around $670, shown as "marked down" from $850. That is a discount from an inflated reference price, more than double the official $299.99. Treat any reseller "sale" on this edition with suspicion.

The official shop only ships the Collector's Edition to the US, Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Chile. Buyers in the UK, EU, Australia and New Zealand are directed to partner retailers, where prices and delivery costs vary.

Your best move is to turn on the official back-in-stock notification. If you mainly want the digital extras, the Premium Edition has all of them for $99.99. Our Collector's Edition page lists everything in the box.

Which edition is the best value?

  • Just want to play: Game Pass, then buy the Standard Edition only if you want to keep it.
  • Want to own it: the Standard Edition at $69.99, physical or digital.
  • Want the cosmetics and Iron: Premium at $99.99, or Standard plus the $30 upgrade later.
  • Collector: the Collector's Edition at $299.99 from the official shop if it restocks.

Early access is over, so the Premium Edition's biggest perk no longer applies. What remains is the Bravo Squad Signature Weapon Pack, five seasonal customization packs and 1,000 Iron. That is cosmetic only, so buy it only if those items matter to you.

When will it go on sale?

Nobody has announced a sale, and we will not invent a date. Big first-party Xbox games have rarely been discounted in their first weeks. The first realistic chances are the major seasonal store events, such as Black Friday in late November and the holiday sales in December.

Physical retailers tend to discount earlier than digital stores, because they need to move stock. If you want a disc for Xbox Series X, watch big-box retailers around Black Friday. Steam also shows the historical low on price-tracking sites, which helps you judge whether a sale is genuine.

Buying on PC: Steam or the Xbox app?

Both PC stores charge the same price. The Xbox app version is included with PC Game Pass, and the Steam version can be refunded under Steam's usual policy if you play under two hours. Crossplay works in every mode on both, so your friends' platform does not matter.

Check the system requirements before buying, because hardware ray tracing is mandatory and some older GPUs cannot run the game at all. Our Steam guide covers account linking, and the Xbox Series X|S page covers the console version.

Upgrade later instead of paying up front

You do not need to decide on Premium now. The $30 Premium Upgrade can be added to a Standard copy at any time, and the total of $99.99 is the same as buying Premium outright. That makes Standard the lower-risk choice: play first, then upgrade only if the seasonal packs appeal to you.

The same logic works with Game Pass, with one warning. The upgrade bought on top of Game Pass stops working if your subscription ends, unless you also own the base game. If you expect to play for months, buying Standard at a sale price and adding the upgrade can work out cheaper.

Deals to avoid

Be wary of "free Gears of War: E-Day" offers, giveaways that ask for your Microsoft or Steam login, and sites selling heavily discounted "account shares". These are scams or break the platform rules. The same goes for downloads promising free cheats; see our WeMod page for what is safe.
