The short answer

The Gears of War: E-Day Collector's Edition costs $299.99 and is sold only through the official Xbox Game Studios store. Its centerpiece is a lit 15-inch statue of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, alongside a replica of Carlos Santiago's COG tags, a SteelBook, a lithograph and more, plus all Premium Edition content. At the time of writing the store lists it as out of stock, and it ships only to the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Chile.

What's in the box

  • 15-inch diorama statue of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, with battery-powered lighting (3 AAA batteries, not included)
  • Replica of Carlos Santiago's COG tags, made of zinc alloy and brass
  • In-game photo of Marcus, Dom and Carlos
  • Lithograph art print
  • Thank-you note from the developers at The Coalition
  • Custom SteelBook designed by illustrator Luke Preece
  • Collector's display packaging with a sliding drawer to display the tags

Xbox's official reveal described the package as built for collectors and rooted in brotherhood. The statue captures the bond between Marcus and Dom on the day the world fell. The tags and photo tie directly into the campaign's story.

The statue stands about 38 cm, or 15 inches, tall. It shows Marcus holding onto Dom as Dom fires at a Wretch climbing out of an emergence hole. Lighting effects, powered by three AAA batteries, bring the scene to life.

Unboxing videos confirm that the statue lights up once batteries are fitted. Buy the batteries in advance, since they are not included.

The SteelBook, lithograph and photo

Luke Preece, the heavy metal illustrator who also designed the Xbox Design Lab controller art, created the SteelBook. It features Marcus on one side and Dom on the other, in dark tones with the classic Gears red. On the Xbox version, it holds the physical game disc.

The lithograph depicts a Feral Wretch, representing the first Locust to break through the ground on E-Day. The in-game photo shows Marcus, Dom and Carlos Santiago together, and it also appears inside the game itself.

Digital content included

The Collector's Edition includes everything in the Premium Edition. That means the base game, up to 5 days of early access, the Bravo Squad Signature Weapon Pack, 1,000 Iron and five seasonal customization packs. Owners could play from October 1.

On Xbox, the game comes on a physical Xbox Series X disc, with a Premium Upgrade code inside the SteelBook. The Steam version comes with a digital code on a card instead of a disc. See our Premium Edition page for the full digital contents.

The collectibles are the same whichever platform you choose. The difference is only how the game itself is delivered. Pick the version for the platform you actually play on, since the code or disc is tied to it.

How the items connect to the story

Several items reference the campaign directly. Carlos Santiago was Dom's older brother and Marcus's closest friend, and his death in the Pendulum Wars is a thread that runs through the whole story. The replica tags put that history in your hands.

The photo of Marcus, Dom and Carlos appears in the game itself, and the statue recreates the moment the Locust first break through. The Feral Wretch on the lithograph represents the very first Locust to emerge on E-Day. Fans of the story will get the most out of these details.

Where and how to buy

The Collector's Edition is sold exclusively through the Xbox Game Studios official store at shop.xboxgamestudios.com. It is not sold through general retailers. The store requires it to be the only item in an order.

Shipping is limited to the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Chile. If you live elsewhere, the official store cannot ship to you. Be cautious with third-party resellers and check that items are genuine and complete.

Is it in stock?

When we checked, the official store listed it as OUT OF STOCK, with a Notify Me When Available button. No restock date has been published. We will not guess at one.

If you missed out, the Premium Edition gives you all the same digital content for $99.99. The physical collectibles are the only part you cannot get elsewhere. If a restock is announced, we will add the date here.

Setting it up

Unpack the statue carefully and fit three AAA batteries to enable the lighting. The display packaging includes a sliding drawer designed to show off the COG tags, so you can keep the box as part of the display. The SteelBook, lithograph and photo complete the set.

Redeem the included code or install from the disc before launch day if you can, so you are ready to play. Owners had early access from October 1, the same as Premium Edition players.

Pre-order bonuses

Like every edition, pre-ordering the Collector's Edition earned the Exfil Dom character skin and the Exfil weapon skin set. It also granted early access to the Open Beta from August 6. See our beta page for what that involved.

Is it worth $299.99?

Compared with the $99.99 Premium Edition, you are paying $200 for the physical items. The statue is the main draw, and the replica tags and photo will mean most to fans who connect with the Marcus, Dom and Carlos storyline. If you mainly want to play, Premium or even Standard covers all the gameplay.

For the story behind the tags, see our ending explained page, which covers Carlos's role in Marcus and Dom's arc.
